International education - local insight
We want our students to leave SIS as global citizens with a strong sense of their origins. SIS has a firm commitment to combining international education with local insight. Children, parents, and teachers find this reflected in a variety of areas:
Languages English and German play an equal role in communication – in the classroom and in all other areas of school life. As a result, children learn to express themselves naturally and confidently in both languages.
Curriculum and qualifications Teaching is based on the curriculum of the relevant German federal state, supplemented by elements of international curricula. We also plan to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program in the 11th and 12th grades. Students can complete SIS with either the German university-entrance qualification (Abitur) or the IBO’s internationally recognized IB Diploma – enabling them to continue their studies both in Germany and beyond.
Accreditation SIS has applied for the status of Ersatzschule. (An Ersatzschule provides courses and qualifications comparable with those offered at German state schools. Teaching is in accordance with the relevant local curricula.) We are also part of the growing SIS network in Germany and abroad. What’s more, we are working toward membership of international organizations such as the IBO and ECIS. Nevertheless, every SIS school is encouraged to develop its own distinctive identity and to cooperate with local organizations, such as other schools, associations, foundations, and businesses.
School environment SIS students, their parents, and teachers come from a variety of international backgrounds. We welcome local children as well as expatriates. We offer students a varied, lively, and safe environment that fosters an awareness of the wider world – without losing sight of the local community.

School - a place to live and learn
SIS Swiss International School offers the entire spectrum of school education under one roof – from preschool to primary and secondary. This ensures a smooth transition from each level to the next. At SIS, children are members of a community where younger students can learn from their elders and vice versa. Our school is tailored to the needs of modern family and working lives, offering a clearly structured and challenging program comprising:
• Instruction with breaks from 8.30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., • Lunch, • Afternoon activities and • Additional morning and evening supervision (starting at 7.30 a.m./concluding at 6:00p.m.).
For our students, the school is a place to live and learn – a stable environment where they face appropriate challenges. SIS school life – including communal meals, games, and classes – allows them to learn sharing, develop assertiveness, and take pride in their achievements.
Teachers and parents work hand in hand to fulfill their respective roles in the children’s upbringing and education. Faculty members spend the majority of their working day at the school, providing students with support during instruction and outside class hours. The school provides teachers with all the resources they require to master all their tasks.

A foundation for independent, life-long learning
Our modern way of life presents many new challenges. To master these, we have to be able to learn independently – in school, university, and beyond. SIS teachers help their students develop this ability by focusing firmly on the children, their natural thirst for knowledge, and their joy in making new discoveries.
Our faculty are experts in designing methods for effective learning. They respect the children and empathize with them, encouraging them to be inquisitive and explorative. They have a firm belief in their students’ abilities, and present them with appropriate challenges. Step by step, our teachers help children develop ways to independently acquire knowledge and put their skills into practice.
Our goal is to foster learning as an integral part of life, and to offer the opportunity to become independent and critical students. SIS children are encouraged to achieve their full potential and exceed their own expectations. At the same time, they learn to realistically evaluate their achievements and limitations. Moreover, we maintain close contact with parents, and regularly discuss their children’s progress and approaches to learning.
