Maths Enthusiasm at SIS Basel

Students from many age groups take part in competitions.

Every year, a large number of SIS Basel students opt to participate in voluntary math competitions. The 2016/2017 academic year was no exception, with maths enthusiasts volunteering from many age groups.

Primary 1 and primary 2 students took part in the Mini-Känguru exams, where 627 schools from eight countries around the world participated.

Primary 3 through primary 6 students took part in the Känguru exams taken by 16.734 students from all over Switzerland.

In addition to those, some Primary 4 through 6 students also joined the Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS) for a total of five tests taken between November and March. The MOEMS is primarily an American event, but it attracts competitors from all around the world, with over 120.000 participating.

For the older students, our Junior Mathematics team with members from grades 8, 9 an 10 travelled to Bremen to take part in this year’s International Schools Mathematics Teachers Foundation (ISMTF) mathematics competition.

We are proud of our motivated maths enthusiasts!
