In music class, the students have been exploring the families of the orchestra. We began our study by listening to orchestral music such as "Theme" from The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, by Benjamin Britten.
The students in Secondary 1 examined the role of the conductor and enjoyed performing conducting patterns in class. They also focused on the overall layout of the orchestra by grouping instruments by their shape and look.
Secondary 2 and 3 students focused on one specific family in the orchestra and discovered how the instruments are made, their history and famous people who played them.
We look forward to continuing to listen to music and identify orchestral instruments by their timbre.
