Lawrence Wood, Principal
Lawrence Wood spent his childhood in the US and obtained his teaching and educational credentials at DePaul University in Chicago. During his studies, he was a competitive athlete and achieved All-American honours in track and field and cross country.
He has taught in the US, Germany and Switzerland. After living on Lake Constance for 15 years, he came to Winterthur when SIS opened its doors in 2001. Lawrence Wood was responsible for translating the bilingual maths course used in many of the SIS schools. He enjoys being in a school community where he has the opportunity to see all of the children each day and collaborate with teachers from all over the world.
In his free time, he enjoys hiking, playing the guitar, reading, running, golfing and returning home to the Sonoran Desert in Southern Arizona.
Nicola Johnson, Vice Principal
Born and raised in New Zealand, Nicola Johnson completed her bachelor of education at Massey University and taught for five years before moving to Australia where she was a junior school teacher for eight years just outside of Sydney.
Nicola joined SIS Winterthur in 2014. With her excellent ICT skills she is the schools’ ICT coordinator. Nicola’s programmes cater to the diverse learning styles of her students. She values the social and cultural background of all students and promotes tolerance, mutual respect and understanding. She regularly reviews both her teaching and the students’ learning, taking the necessary action where needed.
Nicola is an accomplished basketball player and has organised an after school sport club at SIS Winterthur.
