Our Bilingual College is approved by the Canton of Zürich and by the Swiss Confederation. After SIS Primary School, SIS Zürich students go on to six years of college, culminating in the bilingual Swiss Matura and, optionally, in the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB). Transferring to college after two or three years of secondary school is also possible. The students choose one of two specialised subject studies: “economics and law” or “philosophy, psychology, pedagogics”.
A Broad General Education
At college level, students enjoy a general education that is both broad and deep. The following fundamental subjects are covered: German, English, French, Latin (only in the first two years of the long term college), mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, history, introduction to economy and law, music, creative arts, and sports. In addition, we offer extra-curricular activities such as day trips, sports days, and educational excursions, as well as visits to the theatre, museum or opera. Our students also learn important social, emotional and procedural skills and attitudes. With this set of skills, our students will be fully prepared to face the academic, professional and interpersonal challenges ahead.
Computer Skills and Language Certificates
In addition to gaining the ability to participate in multilingual classes in a natural way, our students also acquire solid and hands-on computer skills. They each receive their own laptop, which is used extensively in class and at home. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to earn language certificates in English and French.
National and International Diplomas
Our students graduate from the bilingual college with the Swiss bilingual Matura. However, as a recognised IB World School, we also offer them the opportunity to simultaneously obtain the International Baccalaureate (IB). During their final two years in college, students follow an integrated programme that prepares them for both sets of exams. With this dual qualification, they are ideally prepared for taking up their studies at Swiss or international universities.
The academically challenging combination of Matura and IB is only offered at a handful of Swiss schools, making it one of the distinct benefits of studying at SIS.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
The IB programme is the ideal preparation for university studies in an English-speaking country. Individual subjects are enhanced with teaching and learning methods commonly used at university undergraduate level.
Some subjects are taught exclusively in English with corresponding English material. This allows students excellent preparation for the IB exams, which are conducted only in English.
The programme is characterised by two distinctive features: on the one hand, the subject area Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) gives students the opportunity to actively engage in arts, sports and social activities; the theory of knowledge course, on the other hand, teaches students to develop personal and critical thinking skills.
Transfer from Other Schools
This course is open to newcomers with a good knowledge of English who have completed the first level of secondary school and ideally also one or two years of college.
