Auf den Besuch des Samichlaus freuen sich bekanntlich alle Kinder – doch in diesem Jahr war die Freude im Kindergarten 1 besonders gross. Voller Erwartung bereiteten sich die Kinder auf den besonderen Gast vor und übten ein Klang- und Bewegungsgedicht mit dem Titel „Nikolaus und die Tiere“ ein, das sie dem Samichlaus und seinem treuen Begleiter, dem Schmutzli, stolz vorführten.

Ein besonderer Moment war der humorvolle Vers von Caroline: „Samichlaus, du Superman, leider bin ich Schmutzli-Fan.“ Dieser kleine Reim brachte sowohl Samichlaus als auch Schmutzli zum Schmunzeln und sorgte für herzliche Stimmung bei Gross und Klein.

Natürlich durfte auch gemeinsames Singen nicht fehlen. Als Dank für die Darbietungen wurden die Kinder reich beschenkt – mit Nüssen, Mandarinen, Lebkuchen und Schokolade. Die leuchtenden Augen der Kinder verrieten, wie sehr sie dieser Besuch verzaubert hatte.

Nun freut sich der Kindergarten 1 bereits auf das nächste Jahr, wenn der Samichlaus wieder vorbeischaut. Gerade in der besinnlichen Weihnachtszeit zeigt sich, wie wertvoll es ist, Traditionen und Bräuche zu pflegen – und sie mit den jüngsten Schülerinnen und Schülern zu teilen, deren Begeisterung jede Begegnung zu etwas ganz Besonderem macht.

Last term, Primary 2 have loved diving into our first science topic of the year: Plants and Growing. The children have been busy observing, experimenting, and learning through hands-on activities both in and out of the classroom.

To make the learning cross-curricular, we linked our science work with our writing lessons. The children learned how to create clear, step-by-step instructions, and they applied this by writing their own guides on how to plant seeds and take care of a growing plant. They were proud to use sequencing words and “bossy verbs” to make their instructions easy to follow.

We were also fortunate to visit our local rose garden. This year, it featured a wide variety of flowers in many different shapes, colours, and sizes, which made the experience even more exciting. The children spent time observing the plants closely, comparing their features, and asking thoughtful scientific questions.

Back at school, each child planted their own seed—choosing from beans, peas, or flower seeds. To deepen their understanding of plant growth, we carried out an investigation to discover what plants need to grow. Some seeds were kept without water, some without light, and others received both. The children made predictions, monitored changes over time, and discussed their findings just like real scientists.

It has been a joyful and engaging start to the school year, and the children have shown great curiosity and excitement throughout. We look forward to many more learning adventures in Primary 2!

Im ersten Quartal haben wir uns mit dem Thema bedrohte Tierarten beschäftigt. Wir haben verschiedene Lebensräume wie die Dschungelwelt, die Unterwasserwelt, Wüsten und die Arktis/Antarktis erkundet. Jede und jeder durfte sich ein Tier aussuchen und dazu eine Präsentation vorbereiten.

Wir waren auch im Zürcher Zoo, wo wir unser Thema noch einmal hautnah erleben konnten. In der Schulversammlung stellten wir unser Thema vor und präsentierten der Schule einige Umweltschutzprojekte, die uns am Herzen lagen. Inspirierend fanden wir, dass einige Projekte von Kindern und Jugendlichen gestartet wurden. Am Ende der Themeneinheit haben wir demokratisch abgestimmt: Die Spende vom Kuchenverkauf sollte an das Jane Goodall Institute und Plant for the Planet gehen. Bei unserem Kuchenverkauf konnten wir 450 CHF einnehmen. Zusammen haben wir dann das Geld gebündelt, gezählt, eingezahlt und im Unterricht gespendet. 
 

Wir sind stolz darauf, dass wir gemeinsam etwas Gutes getan haben - das fühlt sich richtig super an! 

Die Krokodile der 3. Primar

Our primary 5 class has been diving into the fascinating world of ecology, learning how living things interact with each other and their environment. To bring our studies to life, we had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Schulkino and watch the documentary Puff.

Puff tells the story of a tiny pufferfish living among Australia’s vibrant coral reefs. Through stunning underwater footage, the film shows how Puff depends on his environment for food, protection, and survival—and how every creature, big or small, plays an important role in the ecosystem. This connected beautifully to our classroom learning about habitats, food webs, and the delicate balance of nature.

After the movie, the students enjoyed a refreshing walk back to school. We took a short break by the lake, where the class had the chance to run around, breathe in the fresh air, and observe the nature around them—an ideal way to end a day centered on appreciating our environment.
We’re proud of the curiosity and enthusiasm our P5 brings to science, and we look forward to many more ecological adventures!
