Little Programmers in Action!
In kindergarten, we have started introducing the children to early programming and coding skills in a fun and hands-on way. Before using the Blue-Bot robots, we are helping the children understand simple programming concepts through play-based learning activities.
To begin, I used a check-pattern carpet area where I placed soft toys such as a Gruffalo and and a little brown mouse. The children used direction cards such as “turn left,” “turn right,” and “move forward” to create pathways and help the Gruffalo find the mouse. This activity encouraged the children to think carefully, problem-solve, and follow sequences of directions.
We also explored a similar activity on the table using a smaller check-pattern grid and toy figures. The children enjoyed giving instructions and guiding the toys step by step across the pathway.
As the children grow more confident, we will introduce obstacles and challenges for them to solve. They will need to help Blue-Bot navigate safely around the obstacles by planning and giving the correct directions.
These exciting activities are helping the children develop early computational thinking, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while learning through play.

EARTH Day
The Sustainability Team has been very busy this spring!
First, they invited our Kindergarten classes to learn about wildlife gardening, composting, and how to make seed bombs. They then organised a special Earth Day celebration where classes rotated through sustainability stations. Students created succulent terrariums, joined the sunflower challenge by planting seeds to care for over the summer, made pine cone bird feeders and bird-safe window stickers, and listened to the book 10 Things I Can Do to Help My World. The team also created a poster, shared snacks and drinks, and helped teach younger students simple ways to care for the Earth.
We are so proud of our Sustainability Team and all of their hard work.

Sustainability in Kindergarten
Sustainability students led a workshop for our Early Learning Centre. They taught the children about composting and introduced our worm composting system, lovingly known as the Bobs.
The students then guided a tour of the school garden, where the children planted sunflowers. To finish the session, everyone made wildlife-friendly flower seed bombs to take to their kindergarten garden, helping to support pollinators and increase biodiversity.
