A Journey Through Space and Learning

This month, our focus has been on our exciting new theme of Solar System and Space. The children have been learning the names of the planets and exploring colour mixing through creating their own imaginative planets. Some children also enjoyed thinking about what life might be like in space through role play and learning new vocabulary such as gravity.

In Maths, we have been developing addition and subtraction skills, with some children beginning to solve calculations mentally while others are using practical resources to support their understanding.

In English, we have continued to focus on letter sounds and applying phonics to build words, with some children beginning to write some simple sentences.

We have also been enjoying our weekly Forest Days, where the children develop important social skills such as sharing, turn-taking and cooperation through outdoor play and exploration.

Nachwuchs-Reporter in Aktion!

Senior Class Trip to Amsterdam

Our senior class trip to Amsterdam was an unforgettable experience filled with culture, history, and plenty of memorable moments. The journey began on the evening of March 8th, when we arrived at Zürich main station, to find out our train departed an hour earlier than expected. Luckily the SBB rebooked us on several connecting trains and, with a bit of running to make connections, were able to catch up with the Night train in Basel Bad. The atmosphere was buzzing with energy as we settled into our compartments, laughing, chatting, and trying (with varying success) to get some sleep while the train carried us through the night toward our destination.

We arrived in Amsterdam the next morning, eager to explore the city. One of the most impactful moments of the trip came on Monday, when we visited the Anne Frank House. Walking through the museum was a deeply moving experience. We saw the hidden annex where Anne Frank and her family lived in secrecy during World War II, and the preserved rooms made the history feel incredibly real and immediate. Reading excerpts from Anne’s diary while standing in the very place where she wrote them created a powerful emotional connection. Many students were struck by the contrast between the ordinary life of a young girl and the extraordinary, tragic circumstances she endured. The visit left us reflective and quiet, giving us a deeper understanding of the human stories behind historical events.

Tuesday was a busy and enriching day. In the morning, we visited the Rijksmuseum, where we explored centuries of Dutch art and history. Seeing famous masterpieces up close was an inspiring experience, and we gained insight into the cultural heritage of the Netherlands. In the afternoon, we embarked on a guided canal tour through Amsterdam. As we drifted along the city’s iconic waterways, we learned about how Amsterdam and the Netherlands developed over time, from its early trading days to its modern global significance. The tour was both educational and relaxing, made even better by a fantastic selection of drinks, meats, and Dutch cheeses that we enjoyed on board.

Right after the canal tour, we took part in a hands-on cooking workshop where we learned how to make traditional Dutch stroopwafels. It was a fun and interactive experience, and the reward—fresh, warm stroopwafels—was absolutely delicious.
On Wednesday, we left the city behind to explore the Dutch countryside. This day focused on the Netherlands’ remarkable relationship with water. We learned how the Dutch used advanced naval engineering techniques, including windmills equipped with the ancient Archimedes’ screw, to pump water and reclaim land from the sea. It was fascinating to see how innovation and determination shaped the landscape. We also visited Edam, where we discovered how traditional wooden clogs are made and how Dutch cheese is produced. Of course, the highlight for many of us was tasting the wide variety of cheeses. We happily filled our stomachs with free samples and our bags with Edam cheeses to bring home. My personal favorite was the smoked cheese with jalapeños—an unexpected but delicious combination.

On our final day in Amsterdam, we spent the morning learning about Vincent van Gogh. We explored the development of his artistic style, from his early works to his most famous paintings, and discussed his struggles with mental health. This visit added a thoughtful and reflective conclusion to our trip, reminding us of the deep connection between art and human experience.

On March 13th, we returned to Zürich main station, tired but full of stories to tell. The trip was not only educational but also a chance to bond as a class and create lasting memories. From emotional museum visits to hands-on activities and shared laughter, our time in Amsterdam was truly unforgettable.

Senior Trip to London

4CO H und 2IB H enjoyed an unforgettable Maturareise to London, where they spent an exciting and eventful week exploring one of Europe’s most vibrant cities. The trip provided a perfect balance of cultural discovery, group activities, and individual exploration, allowing the class to grow closer while creating lasting memories together.

One of the highlights of the trip was the incredible variety of food the students experienced. In Chinatown and at Borough Market, the class sampled dishes from all over the world, from Asian street food to freshly prepared international specialties. Many students also followed recommendations from popular food influencers they had seen on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, seeking out trendy spots and “must-try” dishes across the city. This added an extra layer of excitement, as students compared reviews and discovered hidden gems for themselves. A particularly memorable moment was when the class spotted Prince William and Kate Middleton at Borough Market. However, despite all the culinary adventures, the traditional British dish of fish and chips did not quite win over the group.

Another unforgettable experience was the visit to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter. Here, students stepped into the magical world of Harry Potter, exploring original film sets, costumes, and props. From walking through the Great Hall to seeing the Hogwarts Express, the visit sparked imagination and excitement throughout the class.

A special cultural highlight of the trip was attending the famous musical The Lion King in London’s West End. The performance impressed everyone with its stunning costumes, creative stage design, and powerful music. The actors brought the story to life in a captivating way, and the combination of visuals, live music, and storytelling made it an unforgettable evening for the entire class.

The group also immersed themselves in British culture by attending a live football match at Millwall FC. The energetic atmosphere, passionate fans, and unique traditions of English football gave students a deeper understanding of local culture and sporting spirit.

Cultural and educational experiences were another key part of the trip. The class visited world-renowned institutions such as the British Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Science Museum, where they explored topics ranging from ancient civilizations to modern scientific discoveries. Sightseeing tours also took them to iconic landmarks like Buckingham Palace and Big Ben, giving them a real sense of the city’s history and identity.

During their free time, students pursued their own interests and explored the city independently. Some visited the famous Wimbledon, while others continued their food journeys or went shopping and sightseeing in smaller groups.

Overall, the Maturareise to London was a fantastic experience for 4CO H. It combined fun, learning, and independence, strengthening friendships and leaving everyone with unforgettable impressions of the city and its culture.
