Egg-cellent Engineering: Paper Bridge Contest

Abwechslungsreicher Unterricht Lebendige Schulgemeinschaft SIS Schönenwerd Kindergarten Primarschule/Grundschule

See how our students engineered creative paper bridges, balancing design, strength, and innovation in a fun spring challenge!

Over spring break, our young engineers faced a creative challenge: to build a bridge using only paper! The goal was to design a structure that was lightweight, visually appealing, and strong enough to hold as many eggs as possible. Students had to think carefully about balance, strength, and design.

Each bridge was judged based on three criteria: how it looked, how light it was, and how many eggs it could hold. On testing day, bridges were weighed, admired for their creativity, and then put to the test with real eggs. Some bridges surprised everyone by holding a remarkable number before collapsing!

In the end, one outstanding bridge was awarded the top prize for excelling across all categories. More than just a fun competition, the project taught valuable lessons about engineering principles like tension, compression, and structural stability — all while encouraging creativity and perseverance.

We are so proud of all the students who participated. Their innovation, hard work, and teamwork made this challenge a memorable success. We can't wait to see what they will design next!
