Imagine a world where everyone is treated equally and accepted for who they are. At SIS Swiss International School Schönenwerd, we care about each other and make sure everyone feels welcome. We believe it’s important that all people are seen, heard, and respected. We know that everyone is different, and we believe these differences make our school a much better place to learn and grow.
To begin with, in our school, we learn about different countries, cultures, and people. We discover where our classmates come from, what languages they speak, and what traditions they follow. For example, last year in science, history and geography, the primary 4 students had the topic cultures. They brought food from their home countries to share with the school. Everyone enjoyed trying something new, and it was exciting to learn more about each other through food. This activity helped us understand that even though we come from different places, we can enjoy and respect each other’s cultures.
We also spend time with students from many backgrounds every day. In the morning and during break time, children from all classes play together. We play games, talk, and make new friends. At lunchtime, we sit at the table with our classmates and have conversations about all kinds of things. We listen to each other’s ideas and try to include everyone. It’s a natural part of our day, and we don’t need the teacher to remind us.
Another important part of our school life is how we treat others. We try to be kind, no matter where someone is from or what they believe. We know that each person is unique and deserves to be treated with respect. On days like Sports Day, at school assemblies, and during special events like Pink Day, where students and staff wear pink to stand against bullying and promote kindness, we all join in and celebrate together. These moments help us feel connected, like a big, friendly school family.
In conclusion, diversity helps make our school stronger. We learn more, grow more, and feel more confident when we know we belong. When we feel accepted, we do better in school and in life. That’s why we proudly call SIS Schönenwerd our home away from home. As James D. Wilson, a teacher who believed everyone should feel included, once said, once said, “Diversity in all its forms is the path to greatness.”
