FAQ about Admissions

  • When is the best time to enrol my child?

As we welcome students from both local and internationally mobile families, we accept enrolments all year round. If we have space in a class, new students can join at any time and thus also during the school year.

Experience shows that most children are enrolled in the spring, between February and April, so that they can start the new school year in August of the same year.

  • From what age can I enrol my child?

The school enrolment age varies from canton to canton and from location to location and is either three or four years. We therefore ask you to enquire at the school of your choice. On the following page, you will find an overview of our schools in Switzerland.

  • My child does not speak either or only one of the two school languages German and English. Is enrolment possible?

Yes, enrolment is possible even if a student speaks only one or neither of the two school languages. At SIS Swiss International School, children learn both German and English by immersion, even if their mother tongue is neither German nor English.

To support this, our schools offer German and English courses outside of class or as an intensive course during class time, depending on the school level.

  • Does my child have to pass an entrance exam?

During compulsory education (kindergarten to lower secondary level), entry to the SIS Swiss International School is granted at all locations without an entrance examination.

Transfers to post-compulsory education (from upper secondary level) are regulated differently depending on canton. We therefore ask you to contact the school of your choice in this regard. On the following page, you will find an overview of our schools in Switzerland.

  • Do SIS schools have waiting lists?

If a year group or class is already full, the SIS schools maintain waiting lists. To secure a place for your child, please enquire about capacity at the school of your choice early on, preferably in the spring.

  • At what point in the process is a place secured for my child?

As soon as we have received the enrolment fee, a place is reserved for your child. The enrolment fee can be found on the respective school's price list.

"Our daughter has felt incredibly comfortable and safe at SIS from the very first day. The team welcomes the children with great warmth, patience and professionalism - you can truly feel that she is seen and understood here. She goes to school every morning with joy and comes home full of excitement. For us as parents, it is a true gift that our daughter can learn in an environment that combines warmth, curiosity and high academic quality."

Dory Czech, Mutter

"Very warm and professional welcome from the very first day across the entire SIS team. Great learning environment with plenty of opportunities for the kids to explore and develop. Our son loves going to SIS every single day and we do not want to miss the excitement anymore."

M. and S. Leitner, parents

"We have been extremely happy with the school and the education our children have received. The school is well run and the education structured and delivered in a caring, intelligent way. Our children, though different, both really enjoy school and are happy. The day structure has allowed us both to work while ensuring our children were well supported in their learning in both languages in a holistic environment."

Family Halsegger

"Uns ist das beste passiert, was Eltern passieren kann: Unsere Kinder sind gerne zur Schule gegangen! Der Grund ist sehr klar. Wir hatten jederzeit engagierte Lehrerinnen und Lehrer, die sich mit viel Herzblut für die Kinder eingesetzt haben. Das (Lern-) Umfeld stimmt."

Volker Probst, Vater

"What we love about our teachers is that they captivate children’s passion and curiosity. They are very child-centric, and proactively keep the parents in the loop as needed. As a working mom, I feel I am a full partner in our children’s learning and I extremely appreciate the time staff take to keep us in the loop of what is going, way before we ask for it. "

Idil Wittmann-Abubakar, mother

"We appreciate that our son loves to go to school, he learns and grows in a very caring and inclusive environment. As parents, it is important for us to have open discussions with the teachers about the progress of our son and this is exactly what we get. We also love to read the weekly summary of the teachers about everything the kids did and learnt!"

Tünde Lukacs, father

"The teachers are extremely attentive and caring to the children to help them navigate through the new environment and experiences. They learn through play and songs which makes school so much more fun for the kids. Our son has benefited from this and has developed tremendously socially and in learning in the first 1.5 years at the school. We are so happy that we have also registered our little daughter to join the school next year."
