Dear visitors

A very warm welcome to SIS Rotkreuz-Zug, a private bilingual day school with approximately 120 students, from kindergarten through to primary school. The school community is characterised by a personal, vibrant and nurturing multicultural environment and represents close to thirty nationalities. The bilingual educational concept of SIS Swiss International School has been successfully implemented here since 2012. Birgit Fauland-Würnschimmel

Principal

Birgit Fauland grew up in Austria and trained as a primary school teacher there. She holds a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and a qualification in German as a Second Language (DaZ). She is also a certified mentor for trainee teachers.

 

Through her many years of international experience at bilingual schools in Germany, Spain, Switzerland and Canada, she has gained valuable insights into different education systems. Most recently, she successfully managed a bilingual private school in Central Switzerland. She has been principal of SIS Rotkreuz-Zug since February 2025. Her main goal is to create a place where children are educated in a supportive and future-orientated environment, enabling them to find and shape their place in the world as active global citizens.

 

As Principal, she is passionate about promoting learning across all year groups. She uses practical and creative methods to make lessons engaging and motivating. She regularly shares her expertise in specialist publications, writing about curriculum development and creative teaching methods.

 

Outside work, Birgit Fauland enjoys spending time in nature, whether hiking in the mountains, sailing or taking part in winter sports. She also finds inspiration in music, podcasts and cooking, which help her recharge her energy and creativity.

Edward Pinel

Head of Kindergarten and Primary School

Edward Pinel completed his teacher training in New Zealand and has extensive experience in both New Zealand and Swiss schools. He holds a Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching), a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership, a Master of Educational Leadership, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education.


Throughout his career, Edward has taught across all primary year levels, held a range of school leadership positions, and worked in leadership development and teacher training. He is passionate about being in the classroom and has considerable experience supporting students for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL). Alongside his expertise as an educator, Edward believes in fostering a classroom culture that inspires curiosity, creativity, innovation, and a genuine love of learning.


As Head of Primary and Kindergarten, Edward is committed to supporting and developing teachers so they can achieve the best possible outcomes for every student. He believes that when students are placed at the centre of every decision, schools create a culture where all learners can thrive. This student-centred approach can help to ensure that SIS Rotkreuz-Zug provides an outstanding educational experience for every child.


Outside of school, Edward enjoys spending time outdoors, travelling, and working with his hands. He can often be found exploring the mountains, forests, and lakes of Central Switzerland. Edward believes that education extends well beyond the classroom, and that Switzerland's rich cultural heritage and natural environment provide exceptional opportunities for authentic, meaningful learning.

Teaching and Supervision Hours

At our day school, students are supervised between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

 

The exact lesson and supervision times vary between the different year levels.
