A spooktacular Halloween at SIS Schönenwerd

Varied Lessons Student Life SIS Schönenwerd

Creative costumes, spooky surprises, and plenty of Halloween fun! On 30 October, SIS Schönenwerd came alive with a colourful celebration featuring a costume parade, creative crafts, and activities that brought the school community together.

On 30 October, the students and teachers of SIS Schönenwerd celebrated Halloween. They started the day with an assembly run by Ms Melles, the school principal. Ms Melles explained the meaning of Halloween and how it is a traditional holiday celebrated in countries such as the United States. She also talked about what it means to be kind and what it means to be a good friend. The students were given a printed picture of a witch’s cauldron and were instructed to write a ‘recipe for a good friend’ inside it. Some examples were a cup of kindness or a sprinkle of respect. This was to be completed in the classrooms later in the day.

Spooky costumes and creative Halloween fun

After that, it was time for the children to show off all their amazing, spooky costumes. Each class danced in front of the school to the music, and when the music stopped, they were to ‘strike a pose’ for the flashing cameras. It was great to see the huge effort made by the students and their families to get into the spirit of the day. There were many witches, scary clowns, grim reapers, zombies, and many more.

After everyone had shown off their costumes, it was time to go back to class and complete their ‘recipe for a good friend’ and make other fun Halloween crafts, such as paper Halloween lanterns and trick-or-treat baskets. Grade 4 began working on drawing polka-dot pumpkins inspired by the work of the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.

Overall, it was a fun-filled event with engaging learning experiences and excitement, and the celebrations likely continued for some families long into the next day.
