Chess Tournament

Primary School Varied Lessons SIS Zürich-Wollishofen

This year's chess tournament at SIS Zürich-Wollishofen was a big success, but also challenging. Learn more.

In January we held our annual chess tournament. With over 80 students from Primary 2 to 6 participating, this year's turnout was impressive.

The tournament takes place over six days, with each student matched with a new opponent every day. The students showed considerable skill and poise as they matched wits with their schoolmates. After the final scores are calculated, a total of sixteen medals are awarded: eight medals from Primary 2 and 3 and eight from Primary 4 to 6. The event proved yet again to be challenging and exciting for all!

Numerous studies demonstrate a strong link between playing chess and student performance in the traditional academic subjects. Through regular chess activity, students hone their analytical skills, their ability to concentrate, and they develop their sense of good sportsmanship. And for the students, it is a fun way to learn!
